AAC YAK <br />VOLUME 6, SPRING 2011 <br />The Essex County Accessibility Advisory Committee is diligently working towards <br />another great day of learning and networking at our 9 Annual Opening Doors and <br />Minds Workshop. This year's event will be held on Thursday, October 27, 2011 at <br />the St. Nicholas Macedonian Eastern Orthodox Church Hall, 5225 Howard Avenue, <br />LaSalle, Ontario. <br />Speakers this year will include: <br />• Kathie Snow of Disability is Natural, speaking on Inclusive Communities - <br />Organize for Change (via video conference). Kathie will identify what needs <br />to change to ensure businesses, non - profits, community activities /services <br />and other entities are accessible to people with disabilities. She advocates <br />going beyond the legislated requirements to ensure we are welcoming and <br />inclusive to all! <br />• Dr. Shaheen Azmi, Acting Director of Policy, Education, Monitoring and <br />Outreach Branch of the Ontario Human Rights Commission speaking on <br />Disability and the Duty to Accommodate. <br />• Accessibility Directorate of Ontario speaking on the Integrated Accessibility <br />Regulation. <br />• Nancy Wallace -Gero, Executive Director, Community Living Essex County <br />and Melodie Cook, operations Director, Community Living Windsor speaking <br />on Accessible Community Housing. <br />• Karen Boal and Tanya Emmett of the Association for Persons with Disabilities <br />speaking on employment initiatives that assist people with disabilities in <br />securing meaningful employment <br />• And more.... <br />Be sure to save the date.
