<br />AAC YAK <br />VOLUME 4, SPRING 2009 <br /> <br /> <br />The Essex County Accessibility Advisory Committee is gearing up for its 7Annual <br />Accessibility Workshop. This year it will take place on Wednesday, October 28, 2009 at the <br />St. Nicholas Macedonian Eastern Orthodox Church Hall, 5225 Howard Ave., LaSalle, ON. This <br />workshop focuses on providing information to the community about accessibility issues, what we can do <br />to remove barriers and how we can make Essex County fully accessible by 2025. We hope to see you <br />there! <br />To view information about last year’s workshop, please go to: <br />www.countyofessex.on.ca/countyservices/accessibility_workshops.asp <br />. <br />AAC ACCESSIBILITY ADVISORY COMMITTEE UPDATES <br /> <br />ESSEX COUNTY ACCESSIBILITY ADVISORY COMMITTEE <br />The following initiatives, identified in the Essex County Accessibility Plan, have been completed within <br />the past year: <br />Reviewed and commented on the draft County of Essex Employee Accommodation Policy <br />Reviewed and commented on two drafts of the Information and Communications Standard and <br />one draft of the Transportation Standard Published 3rd Edition of the AAC YAK newsletter to share information throughout Windsor and <br />Essex County <br />Participated in National Access Awareness Week – toured Sun Parlour Home, planned a wheelchair basketball game, made a presentation to County Council, provided news agencies and <br />school boards with copies of information on disability etiquette and person first language, had a local newspaper profile people with disabilities working in the community <br />Planned and implemented our 6 th Annual Accessibility Workshop. <br />Reviewed a draft of Bill 70, proposing new legal rights for people who use service dogs <br />For more information, please contact Mary Brennan at (519) 776-6441 ext. 335 or e-mail <br />mbrennan@countyofessex.on.ca. <br /> <br /> <br />
