AAC YAK VOLUME 3, SPRING 2008 What a busy year 2007 was with the planning and consultations of some of the Standards Development Committees. As of January 1, 2008, the Accessibility Standards for Customer Service, Ontario Regulation 429/07 has become law. No doubt, the following year will also be very instrumental for the futures of all persons with disabilities in Ontario. Locally, our AAC’s have been working towards our vision of making Ontario completely accessible by 2025. As always, a thank you goes out to all of the Town, City and County Councils for their continued support. To all the members of the AAC’s, a pat on the back is also due for their continued dedication to our cause. AAC(AAC) ACCESSIBILITY ADVISORY COMMITTEE UPDATES ESSEX COUNTY ACCESSIBILITY ADVISORY COMMITTEE The following initiatives, identified in the Essex County Accessibility Plan have been completed within the past year: Renovations to Civic Centre Committee rooms; Purchased an adjustable table for the cafeteria; Employee Accommodation Policy and Employee Safe and Early Return to Work Policy has been approved; Disability sensitivity training for all County employees; and Ramp installed at rock fountain and garden area at south entrance of Civic Centre. The following initiatives, identified in the Essex County Accessibility Plan are currently underway: th ECAAC planning the 6 Annual Accessibility Workshop with input from the Windsor Accessibility Advisory Committee; Improving communications for people with hearing and visual disabilities at the Civic Centre – FM receivers, TDD/TTY/TEXTNET technology, improved signage, etc.; Furthering work on providing a “quickplace” collaboration room on the Connecting Windsor – Essex Portal for issues regarding people with disabilities; Monitoring and participating in the planning of the new Accessibility Standards Committees; Will be working on some office design modifications in 2008; 1
